Reference Geometry Question

BrianT

New member
Hi, I'm new here, and I'm also a bit of a newbie to Solidworks. I've been designing a vehiclechassis over the break just to kill some time, but I'm at a bit of a snag. There's a line that I need to draw, but I don't know how to get it to orient it the way I want. I guess if you treat the basepoint where it attaches to the chassis as zero on a xyz coordinate system, then the coordinates for the endpoint of the lineare (224.727x, 152.939y, 158.844z), in mm. How would I be able to create this member? Would it be something in reference geometry?

hmm... in retrospect this probably should've been put in the drawing section

Hi Brian !

Assuming that your line is a SKETCH:In YOUR origin [point P(0,0,0) ]make 3 referenceplanes (INSERT -> REFERENCE GEOMETRIE -> PLANE) parallel with the default planes (TOP, FRONT, RIGHT) using the option PARALLEL PLANE AT POINT. After that, use thetool named SMART DIMENSION to establish the relative coordonates (between this planes and the end point of your line). Of course, the sketch (LINE)must be a 3D SKETCH not a 2D sketch.

Hope I understand well your question. If not... sorry.

Good luck 1
