RELATIONS

so im trying to make a spring flexible by relation in an assembly i have created the ref dim called rd2 and renamed the dim of the over all spring heigth "SPRING_LENGTH" and wrote this relation

SPRING_LENGTH:11cid_5=rd2

also tried SPRING_LENGTH:11=rd2

11 being the feature # in the assembly

cid_5 being the feature # in the spring part itself

i always end up with this error

errorInvalid symbol 'SPRING_LENGTH:11cid_5' found.

also is there a page of what all these errors mean?

You need to put session id not feature number.

In 2001.
In your assembly, goto relation, Show > Session ID.

This is the number you need to put SPRING_LENGTH:XX

Another way to find session ID is, in assembly select Modify and select a feature in your spring. Dimensions are shown and if you switch to name it will show something like "d23:6", the number after ":" is the session ID number.

Note: this session ID number may change from session to session.

Good luck

thats exactly what i needed thank you so much charleskim

now just have to write the realtion that keeps the same number of coils per length change

what i tried was pitch=SPRING_LENGTH/8

but doesnt update that way in my assembly

seems like this would be the logical equation unless it doesnt recognize it or supercedes it in assembly?

that is simpler i just copied my realtion of pitch d2=SPRING_LENGTH/8 into dialog no need for ref dim in assy

thanks DR_G
