Remove .0035" Off Entire Model Surface

CarbonCAD

New member
I have a model from the customer that is made to the finish size, but thepart needs to get coated .0035". I want to remove this .0035" from all the surfaces on the modelso when it is coated it will meet the finish model's specifications. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Depending on the complexity of the model, but give this a try :

Select the complete outer quilt and do a copy & paste. Take the new pasted copy and thicken it to the desired thickness & remove material.

Could do the trick ?

I did exactly that for a part that gets plating. I modeled the part to the finished dimensions then did a surface copy, offset & solidify to create the pre-plating geometry for the CNC guys.

Ive seen those carbon fiber guys take down 60 thousands off a complex model for tooling airplane parts. That surface offset is not fun at all... especially if the part maintainsspecific continuities.

I am now having a problem with using a supplied .stp file and doing the same thing. I can never get rid of the original model. Any specific directions would be extremely helpful.

The other problem is that I should be able to insert shared geometry, but I don't have that option on my system (Why I don't know).

you might have licenseonly for proe foundation. to getthe above said optionsyou may have to update it to advanced
