Well, that's the way ProE works, buddy ...

Unless you have Intralink - and even then - you have to be very careful in renaming files. For one, you can only change a partname that has a drawing when both are open and both have the same name and you have the option ON to rename drawings with parts. When you have an assembly you should start in the assembly.

If you are going to rename a part you have to make sure that everything that relies on this part is in memory. That means every assembly and drawing file that contains the part. After you rename the part make sure you save the assembly and drawing files.

back in the olden days of unix there was a scipt and a command prompt that would let engineers rename parts. The script would change the pointers in the assembly and any reference in a drawing.

Does intralink manage part renaming?

Intralink Is a good at renaming but "but" it is controlled you need to know the quirks and it will not rename everything. if there's ghost, harness, .crc or missing references intralink might throw you the old see log file error. also don't forget about family tables. Intralink does duplications as well witch can break commonspace rename issues.

Is it true that intralink only changes the meta data and not the real part number?

I know you can export import to get renamed files to crack some ties. but what about files inside the Workspace and commonspace and files that don't export and backup does not work or checkin fails. I might repost this.

yes pmac, when you rename files in Intralinkall renamedfiles will be renamed in your workspace only and not the files in the workspace folder, files in the folderstay asthe old filenames. When i was new using intralink i encountered a problem that i can't save my files because i have no enough disc space, so what i did is i purge all my folders, without knowing that it will only giveme aheadache, all my renamed files becomes a ghost because all old files were lost in my folderbecauseintralink does not recognize that the old files were used by the renamed files so it will be deleted in the workspace folder when the folder is purged, leaving you a lot of ghost files in the workspace.

Fisa, try this...i think it will work...

1.open your assembly

2.then click on save a copy and then when prompted for the new names you can have them as you like.....The drawings will automatically be saved with the new names.....then you can delete the old files..I have done that many times and it worked...but it needds the drawing file and model name to be same.

Fisa try this

open your part model along with your drawing in PRo-E in same session

Now rename the part you can find in drwing this will get reflected.

save the drawing and part file.

now rename the drawing

rename_drawings_with_object is a good one atleast will solve some of the issues

renaming the drawing

wish PTC to something in WF5
