Renaming Default Datums

My new company'sstart part files have default datums top, front, and side. Our company standardstates that these planes should never be renamed. This means we are not allowed to use them as set datums for use in GD&T. Nor are we allowed to use them to create cross sections. So, for example, if the top datum plane is in the same location as the intended datum -A- we have to create another datumon top of the existing top datum plane. This seems somewhat strange to me. Does anyone else have a similar company standard? If so, why? If not, can you think of a good reason for implementing this practice? Thanks.

In our company, we rename the default datums RIGHT, TOP, FRONT - mainly so that we can easily recognise which view we are looking at.

We do use them for the default cross-sections (using cross-section labels like A, B etc.) - since we try to use the default planes as the centrelines of the components, it is only when we have more complicated parts that we need anything other than a default cross-section.
