replacing part with skeleton...

i used to work with a proe package that don't have the big assembly extension. at that time, i used a normal part file to as my skeleton model. nto that i already have my hand on the skeleton functions, is there any known fast way to replace the file i use into a skeleton type file and preserving all the relationships??
