Rib fail

Bart_1969

I am learning Wildfire 4.0. I am trying to make a rib following the basic design tutorial. Though I follow what they describe i fail in producing a rib.

I have enhanceda picture of it. Can someone explain to me what I am doing wrong?

this picture frankly speaking does not tell much. Any way, you have to
keep in mind that it is not allowed to create rib where there is empty
void behind. In other words - rib section has to be suuronded by
geometry all around

Bart - can you post a picture of your rib sketch?

Also, if you go to view>display settings>model display>(shade tab) and change quality to 10 this will give your part a smoother look. Your part will actually look oval.

Did the rib feature cause the voids?

1. The rib feature caused the failure.

2. Thx for smoother look : i had changed it and didnt know how to reverse.

3. Failure seems to be random : from the 5 times i tried i had one failure so frankly : still not clear what i am doing wrong for failure.

4. Rib sketch :

I still am interested what could have caused the failure.

Thx to all who reply

requirement is your sketch should create close loop when you consider adjacent faces.
Whatever you shown looks perfect now.It shouldn't fail

The rib feature is not the most robust of commands

example:

In some cases if a rib feature comes close to a tangent or curvature line it can become unattached (open loop) & fall over upon regen. Sometimes this is ok because it might highlight/bring to attention an error in your model. But I have to say that 90% of the time its just very annoying....especially on surface models.

Try creating the same rib feature but just use a simple closed extrusion. I'm certain you will have no issues whats so ever with it.

There are situations where the rib tool is advantageous... it really depends on the criteria & complexity of the rest of the geometry.
