Rib failure

SW

New member
I'm trying to create a rib as shown on the attached image. The problem
being that when I try and increase the thickness of the rib to the required 12.7 mm, the
feature fails. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid and would appreciate
it if anyone could give me any pointers.

I've attached a copy of the Wildfire 2.0 part.

Thanks,

Sam

Oh I know your pain

.. I hate the rib feature. I rarely use it and just make my ribs using standard extrusions and also the draft feature if you require a parting angle etc.

Applying a rib feature to a cylinder will result in a tubular shape of the rib.
By attaching it to a cylinder and a wall with this shape makes it difficult for Pro/E to create the surfaces att the wall side.

Breaking a small piece of your sketch and make it normal to the wall will make it possible to create this rib really thick.

Perhaps you're not happy with the shape though....

You could also cheate and create a triangular protrusion to achieve the same geometry

Thanks,

I've created the feature using a standard extrude, but your suggestion
to add the normal segement has helped me understand why the feature
fails.

Much appreciated.

yeah, what you said!

whenever I've used the rib feature I just seem to cause more problems than I fix. extrude seems to be just as or more stable.
