saved views copying or mapkey

Hello,

I have many parts (>50) to which I'd like to add 6 additional view orentations. These all reference the same 3 planes for their orientation definition (which are in an external copygeometry). Since there is no option to export/import view orientations in WF4 I thought it would be a good idea to make a mapkey to add them for me.

I tried recording a mapkey, but to select the orientation references I must pick them in the model window. The mapkey doesn't record the feature name, so this will not work with other parts.

Is there a way to make a mapkey and input the references feature's name in it to get this to work? Or is there any other way to copy view orientations from one model to the other when they use the same references?

Any help is appreciated!

It sounds like you will have to do the initial view orientation manually then record the mapkey to define the 6 views from there. Use 90/180 degree rotations rather than datum selection for the subsequent views.

The current orientations reference the main CS/planes in the part.
The new orientations reference a new CS/planes, which I will be rotating in space.

When referencing planes for orientation, the views will follow changes to the CS/planes.
When using rotations based on a current orientation they will not ...

I could as you say define 1 orientation in each model by hand referencing the newCS/planes and base the other 5 on the first one by rotation, but that's still a lot of work.....

You can select features such as datum planes by using the find tool, even if they exist in copy geometry. (Edit>Find) You should be able to set up a mapkey that defines saved views, you just want to be sure to use the find tool for selections instead of picking on the screen.

Let me know if you need more input.

No problem.
Which part of the Netherlands are you from? I had the opportunity to visit relatives in the Eindhoven area a few years back. Beautiful country.

I'm from Brunssum, which is in the south near Maastricht.
Although I don't consider the Netherlands to be such a special and beautiful country with regards to nature I do like it here

Hi Zestje

I do have a mapkey for WF3 for this. It uses find options for the first view (Front to FRONT plane, top to TOP). The rest of the views are done by orient dynamic.

I get views named FRONT BACK RIGHT LEFT TOP BOTTOM ISO.

But I guess you are done by now?

Also I have mapkey creating parameters in imported parts...Any interest?

Regards Gunnar

@Gunnarhansen: Thank you for the reply, and sry for the late answer, but I already have the mapkey up and running the way I wanted it with Spidernate's help
