I am trying to create a section view on a model. I can get the part to section in half, but I want it to cut out only a quarter section, not full or half section. How do you do this?
I can select the 2nd and 3rd planes, but the first plane cuts the entire model in half. Is there a way to "move" the plane so it doesn't cut the whole model in half?
Are you trying to show the inner workings of your assembly? I'm not sure how to create a quarter section the way you want, but you could turn the outside component transparent, ormake ita wireframe.
If you're doing this for a drawing, a partial section may work.
I have a gear and trying to show different sections of the model. I tried what you suggested and it only cuts the model in half using one plane. I was able to achieve what i wanted by cutting out the part that i didn't want to show with an extruded cut. Thanks.
Did you look under the drawing menu? The command you are seeking has a slightly different icon which appears as a quarter cut. It is called "Aligned section".
So you just start your line outside of the gear, go towards gear axis, then change direction away from axis.
Create a sketch on a plane or surface which is normal to the part you care to cut. sketch the desired cut line. Then either EXTRUDE CUT or SPLIT the model. If you extrude cut, you remove part of the model. If you split, you divide the model into pieces which can be saved as an assembly if needed. You can then hide different model bodies.
