Set the Default Format of PDF Documents

Forum Members,
Is it possible to set the default format of a pdf
document?
The help file "To Set the Format of the PDF Document"
lists defaults including:
* The PDF output is in color

Is there a way to change this default.

* Note this is essentially a repost of
p?TID=40819&KW">this thread.

Thanks in advance.

I am also curious. I'm always manually switching to 'Stroke all fonts' and 'monochrome'. Is there a config.pro setting that will do this, perhaps one of the nefarious 'hidden' settings? I know that books have been written on the complexities of config.pro settings.

WF5 lets you save PDF "profiles" which capture all your
print settings. They are saved in a *.dop file in your
working directory - you can recall them for new sessions.

Theres also
ttf_handling_for_plot_files stroke all fonts (WF5)
but it doesnt seem to work for PDFs

Why didn't they just stay with the existing printer control files *.pcf? It would have been so much easier than a) initially giving the user no control & then b) creating a whole new breed of dope files. Doh!

PDF handling by ProE has been pretty poor - unusable in
actual fact. WF5 has made progress on this front. I think
they need it so that it can act as a CAD worker app in PDM
systems like Windchill - ProE creates thumbnails and PDFs
for the PDM system.

Digging this up from the grave...

Creo/WF5 creates a *.dop file when you save the PDF
settings... which is great!

But what is not so great is that it doesn't automatically
read this file, even from the startup directory.

How do I force it to? I didn't see any obvious config.pro
setting that points to it.

I have no idea why PTC have made this such a convoluted and difficult process. They should have made PDF file creation just like printing with .pcf files, pen table files and all the rest. It would have been so simple. Anyway, the solution for making good PDF files remains the same way it has always been since the introduction of Pro/Detail many moons (& Pro/E releases ago). Use the generic postscript driver to print to a .psfile and convert that to a PDF file. There are dozens of utilities (some free) that will do that.

Actually the "publish to pdf" feature works well and
isn't very hard to use. It's just hard to automate and
get consistent.

I found a intf_profile_dir option and set that to point
to the location of the pdf config file.I just make
sure to select it as part of the mapkey and it works
fine. I type "PDF" into pro/creo/whatever it's called
this month and a few moments later, a PDF without goofy
fonts or colors pops up nicely and is saved in the
working directory under the same filename as the drawing.

Why everyone wants fifty seven PDF workarounds is beyond
me.

The whole PDF effort from PTC feels like a B-Team exercise
- actually it encompasses all the print side - TTFs,
previews, default setups, line thickness control. Its gone
on for the whole of WF and Im not sure CREO has fixed it.

It should be a no-brainer - save the drawing and it
optionally generates a PDF automatically to some default
template.

In addition they need to acquire
www.InspectionXpert.com and incorporate all that
functionality.
