A shrinkwrap takes the external surfaces of your part and creates copygeoms into a new .prt file. This way, you can share the design sahpe, but not the creation parameters with others. They also load faster, since there is less data to load. I did a shrinkwrap on one assembly that was 450MB as an assembly but only 9MB as a shrinkwrap.
