I get errors like that but only for assemblies where I have a part mounted on a tapered hole. What I do in that case if the shrinkwrap failes is to blank the part from the assembly and make the shrinkwrap again. And then I make a individual shrinkwrap only for the part.
Are you making a assembly or a part shrinkwrap? I assume is for a part.
For assemblies I get errors all the time and that is how I fix them. For parts I never get errors. Shrinkwraps for parts work all the time for me.
if it is DMU for assembly then it can be many causes of problem.
But let`s try to face them:
so first of all causes is interfercing between two components, specialy when one surf comes in round surf. This 100% sure problem.
Solution - make interferencing check. Take a look what with what. To make it easier you can, suppress, exclude some parts by simReps, make a DMU again and check if goes with or without problems. With this method You can find problematic component, or set of components and than suppres or change some inner feats or dims to not interference with anothe components
second - accuracy problem. If Your assembly contain models with different set of accuracy, do not be suprised then that You have problems
third - to complecated and detailed models
and in the end - it is my personal insight - in Pro\e 2001 not so many problems with DMU exist, it started with WF 2.0
however, in automotive industry this term is used often, it does not stick to one software, so You can make DMU in Catia, Pro\E
to make DMU in Pro\E shrinkwrap function is used
generaly DMU means the simplified form of more complicated device
for example You have an engine with whole equipment, and you want make vibration test
so it is to hard to make it for whole assembly, but you want to have all external devices, so You make DMU - save as shrinkwrap - one model which contains the whole external geom, then You can make vibration test for example in Adams, make motion envelope and put this envelope into you car assembly with motion envelope for susspension and make interference check
