simp rep or family table

it seems like this was just brought up in here but i cannot find it

i have an assembly that has a moving part about an axis the boss wants 2 views

1 open 1 closed

is it better to put 2 parts in same assembly and do a simp rep

or family table the dimension and have 2 parts on the drawing?

or alternative method?

In that simple case, and if it is only one drawing with 2 different views I would say Simp rep.
If you need 2 drawings then definitely family table because you can simply replace family instances and drawing remain same with all dimensions, surf finish and everything else you put in it (of course except that dimensions that was referenced to excluded components or features).

In most cases I'm rather using simp rep over family tables, but both it seams have problem with showing mass in drawings.

I agree with Isair, I have read severals posts about the dificulty of getting mass prop result with simp. reps. Maybethis isanother one to add to the wish list.

I think it is better to use family table. The BOM is correct for one thing. Also, you can have the part in as many positions as you want.

that is what i ended up doing something about multiple parts in my assy i didnt like plus seemed like less work doing family table

i suppose i could have changed angle snap shot it change model back

but no updating that way
