sinusoidal cam profile modelling help?

Hi Folks,

I have to produce a model of a cam that has a sinusoidal cam profile on the exterior of it. I have searched the forums, but cannot find an answer to my problem.

How do i go about producing such a profile? could i use either an equation or graph? i would like to use a graph and be able to reproduce that graph onto the detail drawing at a later stage for manufacture?

Looking forward to your replies.

Axial or radial displacement? Axial; look into Wrapping a planar curve onto a cylinder. Radial; I can't quite picture it. Something like a "star wheel" maybe?

HI Jeff,

It was a radial profile i was after. in the end i used autocad to produec the profile and then used that as a sketch to create the cam.

Thanks

Gary

Cool. Glad you got where you needed to go. For future ref, if you can post something to give the reader an idea of what you were after someone can probably provide a solution that'll give you a native profile.
