Skeleton parts

I am using a seat of ProE wildfire 2.0 Foundation advantage. I am trying to build a basic box (with 4sides), in an assembly, and then have the box sizebe driven by a family table in the assembly (so that when you open the assembly, you can open the 'small' 'medium' or 'large' box. To do this, I first created a sketch in the assembly that represents the footprint of the box. I then created the box sides & ends (using datums that reference the footprint sketch), in the assembly, using extrude to surface, etc. The assembly works great...change the footprint sketch, and the rest of the parts update, however if you try todrive the footprint sketch dimensions with afamily table inside the assembly...the parts don't change (only the sketch does). I have tried ptc help, and they tell me that the parts need to have their own family tables for this to work...sounds like alot of work. Would a skeleton part help? Any ideas on how to make this work would be appreciated.
