Dear Friends

Any body has any refernce of skelton modelling

i am doing moldbase standardisation for which the

I would be interested to see a start part assembly or what ever for a typical mold base using skeletons or copy geometry. I know how I teach it - PDT style - but I bet I could learn something with a proper discussion here.

Search the PTC Knowledge Base for 'skeleton chair', there's a pretty good generic tutorial on top down design with a skeleton using an office chair. You can then apply that to a mold base.

The knowledge base requires maintenance no? I can no longer
get to it from my PTC account and I know that we never renewed our maintenance when
we upgraded to WF3.0.

Very interesting topic - seeing as though I've just set up a library of mouldbases for several standard tools! We use ALMO diebases (see http://www.almo.uk.com/)

Here's how I did it:

For example, the 156 series (width stays the same, the length increases), I made a merge feature of the imported STEP file of the ejector half or the hot-half. This is so that if ALMO alter the tool, the affected part would be updated where appropriate. I used a 'Warp' feature to increase the length and then add this dimension to the family table (the first instance will be missing this feature because it doesn't change in length).

I can then make a family table of ALL variants of this series. I can then take a copy of a family table instance and then use this as my 'start assembly' for production tooling. It took some setting up but works extremely well.

hmmm.... using warp on imported model... sounds pretty useful. Thanks Phil. I think I can use the information...

skeleton modeling need not be stricly in the PTC sense. I can also have sketch lines (skeletons... ) for length, width height..... Datum planes and so on.... at the ASSEMBLY level; Create generic model using the primitive elements and then have a family of parts and asemblies.
