Sketch Auto Hide

Here's my situation; when an external sketch is used to create a feature (say an extrusion or revolve) Pro/E will automatically hide the sketch.

Does anyone know a config option or something else to set so this will not happen? (i.e. the sketch is not hidden by default)

I know it is not very difficult to just select the sketch, right click, and unhide but I have a user who would really like to have the auto-hide turned off.

Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

I have this problem also. I did a search on it and got this unanswered topic.

I want my external sketches to be unhidden by default too. Because if I want them to be unvisible, I'll create them internal in a feature. The reason I create a sketch external is because I want to re-use that sketch for several features or as a referece for follow-up features. So I don't want them to be hidden automatically.

Besides, curves and sketches do come on a default layer Curves with our config.pro, so at the end of a design any layers is blanked and saved-status, so hiding is not necessary. It would be fine as it can be turned off.

I used to have this problem, but I solved it by using another method. When you are in "sketch" mode, do a "Save As" before picking Done. Name it with something you can recognize like "MS33649-08". You may want to put all of your "saved" sketches in a known directory for future reference.

Now, whenever you create a "MS33649-08" port, you can bring in the saved sketch, even if it is in the same model. To do this, setup your sketching plane just like you would with any other feature. Once in "sketch" mode, on the top tool bar, select Sketch, Data from file. Browse to your saved sketches and select the one that you want. A window will open up letting you change the scale and/or angle of rotation. Once the sketch is on the screen, align it to your model, and your done. You can edit the feature's sketch anytime that you want to. It will not effect the saved sketch or any other feature in this model that used this "saved" sketch.

Note: When creating your "saved" sketch, try to keep all dimensions within the sketch by aligning centerlines to your model references and dimension the sketch to the centerlines. This way all you have to do when creating another feature,is align the centerlines to your new references for this feature. Saved sketches do not maintain all of the constraints. Things like "aligning point to 2 lines" and "parallel" will still be there, but are not a hard constraint. You may want to create these constraints before aligning it to your model.

I create a lot of aerospace parts. There are many types of ports, lee plug holes, etc. Doing this has saved me a lot of time over the years.
