Sketched Holes?

Hi.

Could someone kindly point me to some decent instructions for creating a sketched hole?

I was making one the other day, and ended up putting it in upside down.

I find it odd that I only get a black sketching screen where I can't even pick edges.

thx,
john

Have you looked at Help, Part modeling, Engineering Features, Hole, To Create a Sketched Hole?

I'd guess it came in upside down because of the references used to place it. You can flip the section (on the Placement tab) for, at least, some placement types.

There's no need for external references ("pick edges") when sketching the hole section profile, is there? Perhaps explaining why you'd want to...? Basically, it's just a different interface for a revolved cut, so maybe you'd want to use that instead.

Unfortunately there's no help with the student/trial version.

Apparently I need to "unlearn what I have learned" from my solidwerks days.

thanks tho. i'm waiting a full version eval, so I'll check that when it shows up.

Hello jebster

To create sketched hole you have to:

1.Pick your primary reference (the axis of revolutoion of your hole will be perpendicular to that reference)

2.select the placement type (linear, radial etc.)

3.sketch profile of your hole - it must be a closed loop ofgeometric entities(at first sketch a vertical centerline - it will be your axis of revolution) and at least one entity must be normal to the axis of revolution

4.to reverse thehole direction click flip

GOOD explanation

Mentioned that feature is usefull when you must createpatterns ofcircular protrusions or cuts

(some protrusions, cuts or specifically holes non standard)
