sketched text showing parameter

jbuckl

New member
I have a section with some sketched text.

I wish for the text to display a parameter (string / real number / id)

I tried using &<parameter> but all it shows is &<parameter> (!)

Does anyone know what the correct method or syntax is please?

I found the drop-down for inserting a parameter but it doesnt show the syntax

This means if I want show the parameter truncated I'll need to map it to a truncated (new) version of the parameter.

Does anyone know the correct syntax?

What version of Pro/E? In WF2 when you check use parameter it opens the parameter dialog box. You just pick the parameter you want & click insert. The text that appears in the text sketching tool is in the form of &parameter.

Thanks, I have WF2 & I found the dialog box but:-

What I'd like to do is enter the syntax to show the parameter.

Do you know the syntax?

jbuckl,

Perhaps you could tell us what the paramter is? Why are you tracking a parameter that you are truncating? Why are you truncating th parameter you are tracking? Sounds like there may be some redundancy...

Are you asking if it is possible to enter something like an inline relation in place of the text or a parameter name?

That's not going to work. You will have to create a model relation and generate a new parameter

The parameter is the y axis extent of a graph.

The value shows 5 decimal places which is good for the graph plot.

The y axis scale needs to show the value truncated.

The y axis scale is being created in the model(.prt) as text in a sketch.

This is so the model can be added to a drawing (anyones drawing)

If it was just a job I was doing myself, not other users, I would label the graph axis in the drawing only!

Hope this clarifies the redundancy point?

What you wish might be possible with feature relations.

Try this:

Go to relations
Select "feature" from the pulldown then choose the graph feature from the model tree.

Add in the relations as needed, these are from my personal test of the technique.
TEST=EVALGRAPH("GRAPH1",5)
TEST2=ITOS(TEST)

CHOOSE DONE

In the sketch where you want the 3D text, when choosing the parameter to be used, choose "feature" from the drop down and select the graph feature from the model tree.

Then choose either TEST or TEST2. Either the string or the numeric parameter will work.

There you have it. If you can create a feature relation that defines a parameter providing the text needed. That "feature" parameter can be used in the sketch.
You are not limited to string parameters, numeric params work too.
