Sketcher nuissance

Hi, I hope this is the right place to ask this:

how do I get rid of this nonsense warning "You didn't specify enough references - are you sure? Yes / No"

ProE asksthis question every timeI'm using Edge or Edge Offset in Sketcher.I'm sure as hell yes, I want to do this, stupid piece of s**t. After umpteenth time, I've had enough. I hope there's some setting somewhere that shuts it off.....

Identify u r common issues and give a map key for that

this will reduse u r mouse movement

which in return will give cofortness.

this is what i do for such things

Marker, your not providing enough references for the sketch

When you see this you need to specify more references. Normally Proe will pick up refs like datum planes automatically however if your sketches are at different angles to the default planes then you will more than likely have to give it more info. I get this a lot with the modelling i am doing and if you just got to your modle tree and click your default planes and axis, these would be the features that would be in a blank new part.

Yeah, I know - that's the whole point of my rant... you DON'T need ANY references when using EDGE or EDGE OFFSET, so why bother with the warning message.

Oh well, at least my Carpal is happy

. I'd love to have a quick chat with some of the ProE developers, those duchebags don't have any clue about productivity. Oh boy, I sure miss my CATIA days.

Take a chill pill and make a mapkey.

The alternative is that everyone who wants to add references has to hit the references icon everytime.

Well you'll find find that you do require at least on reference to enable x and y dims for all entities.

Proe is just a tool, nothing more. If you dont like it choose to use something else.

Dear marker4x4,

It is absolutely necessary to have the references in place. Otherwisesketch /feature will be floating in space with no relation to the model. Proe enforces that dicipline. Select atleast Two references for x & y direction (can be datum planes or surfaces, or a single VERTEX or an axis normal to the sketch plane.

You will really appreciate this requirement at later stages in the design.

Ah yes..... I too don't work for PTC.

Genlemen,

I do appreciate your responses, but I guess Iowe some explanation here:

I'm NOT complaining about Sketcher in general. I do understandthe need for References.

But if you read CAREFULLY my initial post, youshould see that I'm referring to creating sketch containingONLY entities created usingEdge and Offset Edge.

For those you DON'T need ANY references, pronto. ProE spits out an uselesWarning which you just ignore and eventually learn to hate.

Why am I so picky, you ask? Well, after tens of thousands of myCAD/CAM hours I learned to recognize and appreciate good programs and vice-versa.

Anyhow, I don't think my quest leads anywhere, so may as well drop it. I just like toquestion the obviousevery now and then, that's all.

Cheers all,

Mark

I know how you feel. I have been using pro since 1990. I know what you mean with the edge offset. Use it myself at times. Unfortunatly I do not know of any config option to turn it off.

I guess once you select one or two eges the message disapears. However it still is anoying at the beginning. I 'learned' to cope with it.

Happy programming

Tony

(1) Sketch button.
(2) Sketch plane.
(3) View orientation reference.
(4) MMB
(5) Constraint reference (vertex).
(6) An entity creation button (could be Use Edge).

I can't get very passionate about it either way.
They could very easily configure it like some of the other input
dialogs (i.e. the constraint reference collector) to have it pop
up and then disappear when you pick an edge (to Use) in the graphics
window. Petition those that have the means to submit an enhancement
request to that effect. What the heck; a click's a click. ;^)
