solid subtraction

I've searched the forums, and any answer I've found is not
really an answer to the question.

How is a subtraction between two solids accomplished?

In essence, making a mold, but with out the mold extension.

In Autocad, it would be a boolean subtract I believe.

Place them in an Aseembly and then Edit-->Component operations-->Cut Out

You can do Boolean addition and subtraction in Pro E also just like AutoCAD. If you are using WF 2, this can be done by selecting "Cut out from model" option which is given under Insert-->Shared Data menu. If you are using WF 4.0, under the same menu, select "from file" option and then select either protrusion or cut options. You can position the parts by using constraints similar to those of assembly.

You can't select a Pro/e part when you do that in WF4. Also it aligns the Coordinate systems of the
two components and does not allow you to position them like in an assembly... at least you can't in the Foundation package like I have =P

Yes you are right, Santangelo. In WF 4. a part can not be positioned in any desired position while using "from file" option. However, this can be achieved using "merge/inherentence" and "remove material" option.

...which is not available in the foundation package, D'oH!

The assem method works well enough with what we do here, lol.

Hi James,


I am not sure what I am using is a foundation pack or an "advance" pack of Pro E. Here is the list of modules I have access within Pro E.





With these modules, I am able to get the material removal option within "merge/inheritence" option. Here is the snapshot.





I did not getthe last line in your previous post.

Here at my work this is not something that comes up very often... Actually I have yet to come across it
