Spin/Pan/Zoom

OK, probably not a new topic and has been covered before I bet but what idiot at PTC came up with the bright idea to change the funcionality of the Pan/Spin/Zoom from using the control key and all three mouse buttons to using the middle mouse button (or that stupid Microsoft invented mouse wheel) and 2 keyboard buttons???

Yes, I just switch over to Wildfire and yes there are some things that are better but why go off and change something that is so simple and easy to something more difficult??

So now a question that I am sure has been asked many times but while I am venting I thought I would ask again.

Is there a way to (config option) change back to the old better way of doing Spin/Pan/Zoom??

Thanks

Kirk

kdarroch,

Sorry to say but it is impossible to satisfy all the people. It was a public demand to get rid of the Ctrl button and introduce undo/redo. PTC struggled hard and now people say against it.

I think there must be a hidden config.pro option to bring that Ctrl back. You contact ptc and they will tell you.

kdarroch,

I think that's not a big difference wich key to hold - the Ctrl or middle mouse button. I like the new way of doing Spin/Pan/Zoom more then previous. Maybe my comfortable mouse influences on this point of view.

The old way was heaps better. Even more so if you had more than three
buttons on your mouse and could bind one of the extra buttons to CTRL.

I still haven't found a tidy way of doing zoom to box only using mouse buttons that was so easy under the old method.

I suspect the REAL reason they changed was to make it more like SolidWorks. POS that it is.

By the way, they haven't got rid of the CTRL button, they have made it
worse by also requiring the Shift button and worse still, PAN is
different between 2D and 3D modes

Well when I first started with Wildfire I was also confused by using mouse to spinning zoom. But when I used to this new way to spin and zoom ti was great even better of 2001. So few months later I was forced to use 2001 and then I reallies that spinning and zooming and paining in 2001 is to slow and to many clicks you must do to achieve same thing with wildfire. So spinning, zooming and paining in Wildfire is Faster and easer from my point of view.

This is a sore subject for me.. I have (had) the
problem for a long time of using the middle mouse button to pan and rotate that
it would sometimes cause wildfire to crash.. I worked with this for
months and finely decided that it was just not going to work for me so I bought
a space ball off of Ebay.. WOW I do not know how I ever got around with out
it.. And no more crashing. My company was going to reimburse me for the cost of the space ball
(about $150) but I decided that I liked it so much that I decided that I wanted
to keep it so that I could take it with me if I ever left.

So, If you can not stand the new PAN/ZOOM/ROTATE in Wildfire
I highly suggest getting one. They are on Ebay for fairly cheep.

I was saying the same thing when I jumped ship onto wf1. But after using it and also finding that I can use my wheel on my mouse to zoom in and out it's really not all bad. With the wheel you still only need to use one keyboard key and now only one mouse button. I work with both WF2 and 2001 and going back and forth is a painful process but after doing it so many times I realize that the new mouse scheme is better.
