Splitting a Geometry

Hi,

I have an assembled geomety which I need to use for a CFD analysis. The solid model was created in Pro/E. However, in order to simplify the model, I wish to make a quarter model of the original one since it is symmetrical.

How can this be done? Is it by creating planes and cutting the model along those planes? For e.g.if I have a car model, and I want to use just one half and use symmetry for the other half, how do I get the half model from the whole in Pro/E?

Thanks,

Vidya

Vidya,

This can easily be accomplished by using an "assembly cut". If you use the entire model option you will always have a cut that will cut away the symmetric portion of the assembly, even if new parts are added to the assembly (before the assembly cut in the model tree, of course).

Hi Matt,

How do you use the 'assembly cut"? Is it by using planes as I mentioned earlier? Or is there any such command?

Thanks,

Vidya

create a sample assembly with some new components, like a block with 4 disks (as tires) or something..

you shouldn't really send any intellectual property over the internet

Sorry, I don't understand.... how will that help? Also, you're right..... I can't really send it over the internet. Could you explain as to how a geometry can be split up?

I tried that...but didn't get what I exactly want. Does it involve extrusion of the blocks vertically and horizontally? That's what I'm doing right now.

Depending on what planes you use as your references, you could quarter the assembly in one cut feature.
