I've a simple model where I'm trying to size an assist spring to take some of the load off of a micrometer used as an adjuster.
The units of the assembly and models are proe default. The compression spring has a K of 64#/in. If I have it right the K of the mechanisim spring shoule be 64#/in*G, (G being 386.0...) or 24710 lbm/sec^2.
Is this correct?
Cause when I back of the envelope this. The spring being compressed 0.5 in says it should be reducing the load by 32#. Yet when I check the analysis with and without the spring I'm getting forces on the mic of 7130 & 20854 respectively for a difference of 13724 or 35#.
Ok that's only 3# difference but I expected closer than that.
