structural steel profiles

Greetings Pro-E Experts-

Does anyone know where to find 2d profiles of structural steel? I'm looking for mostly beams, angles & tubes that can be extruded to any length from these profiles. I was surprised not to find this stuff in the features library. There are shapes in the sketch function but that is all they are (shapes). There isn't any reference to actual steel profiles in size.

Thanks Sonics

Have you heard about EFX? Expert Framework Extension? EFX is exactly the type of sofrware you were looking for, EFX has varies type of 2D profile of structural steel, extrusion....you name it.

EFX has complete set of standard library, yet it allow user to customize the library components with parametric associative nature build on it.

Please check www.buw-soft.com for more info

If you need more info, drop me a note and I will provide more paths.

Cheers

This is what I'm looking for. I went to PTC's WEB site but couldn't find any information. I have a call into my PTC salesman. Do you have any idea on cost?

Thanks for your help!

Bart-

You are correct but as I stated they are only shapes. As a work around I have created my own sketches and kept them as just sketches, I can then Insert-compenent-create and reference any of my sketches and extrude it to any lenght. This is a good work-around as long as I create the shape accurately.

The EFX module lists for US$5000.00. According to my PTC salesman it is usually sold for list minus 10% to licensed Pro-E users.

Thanks for all your help!

I run start models of all the structural sections that I use and have built IF/THEN/ELSE relations into the model so by changing the master parameter I can change ALL the section dimensions and material descriptions etc.

Also probably a better idea if you want metric steel sizes.

Thanks for your help everyone!

I checked out Fast-Design. The profiles are structrual member parts extruded to 12 inches. Once you find the correct shape all you need to do is a save a copy and modify the extrusion to any desired length. As near as I can tell, it does not have the powerful cababilities of the EFX module such as creating embedded BOM's and advanced features like fasteners, gussets, fillers and so on.

If your only looking for the profiles Fast-Design is the best value however, if your looking for the complexitly and advanced features we all love about Pro-E the EFX is better..........but it will cost ya.
