Surface area calculation

Siron

I need to run a surface area calculation on some steel tanks so that I can figure out how much paint is required to cover the outer surface. My question is does Pro-E take into account the inside surface of an enclosed hollow object during its mass prop analysis? I can do this maually but this will be very time consuming since I have so many to do.

Thanks in advance.

Yes it does. If you create a hole that is completely inside the model, this surface area increases

Use the geometry filter and the control key to highlight and copy just the surfaces you want to paint. Copy and paste those surfaces and than simply go into the analysis and measure the area of a quilt. You will get exactly what you want to know. (by the way, you can thicken the quilt you make in another part file and know exactly how much volume of paint you will use and what it will weight!)

I guess that if it's painting you're after and it's steel tanks you're in (pun intended) then getting the (entire) surface out of the normal model analysis and dividing it by 2 won't be too far off.
