surface test 2----ellipse & ellipse

Hi Yin.. am glad to see another model from you but you didnt tell us how accurate is that model ... For creating such a model is needed to make some tangent curves and then make some surfaces ... all right ..it is nice ... but as we know ..we are able to use few levels of continuity of the surfaces and for curves too..this is the question of the clarity of the model..You should informe us about your curvature analyses or atleast zebra analyses of that models (ellipsoid as well) ... here is no big problem to do that but with G1 continuity.... but if your model was made by G2 continuity, it would be a little bit complicated... ti would be useful to see curavture analyses of both models. thanks..

hello muadib3d, I saw the real device of this, seems made use stainless steel, but I do not know what is it useful :D

hello miko, yes, you are right, I can did it by G2 continuity in UG, but it so hard maks G2 continuity by pro/e, I think G1 would be find in pro/e.

and for all of product I design, if it need quite smooth (just like G2 or G3), I often design it in UG. and for do not need quite smooth, I can do it both in pro/e or UG, and for the product I designed in pro/e, I only analyse it by my eyes ^_^, just like mobile phone, just looks fine is enough~~lol

same way, different curves, :)

(BTW, I used pro/e for 5 years, but I do not kow how to makes "curavture analyses" in 2001 and wildfire, maybe should waitting your lesson about it.

thanks

Hi Yin,

Have you posted a tutorial of how to do this yet as I'm very interested to see how it's done.

Thanks

ISDX Thursday Version. Took less than 6 minutes. I left the curves so you guys could have a hint for figuring this out all with four part boundaries. Chicago is 67 degrees f today.

I think I might be able to do it on Friday's lunch using trajpar variables. Link is to Wikipedia

I can't imagine what the graph would look like.... for trajpar to work it would have to be a multi trajectory sweep.

Israr I can be a cocky bast*rd sometimes. I'm not that way in real life. I was just happy that thing went so fast with ISDX. It took me longer to upload the picture than it did to model the solution. it was 87f today in chicago.

I am guessing there is a solution to this without using ISDX...? Just realized I never finished this and wondered what the best method was...

cheers,

M

I thought about it for a minute and I cant see how a graph could split to create that shape using a trajpar variable. I like teasers like this tho.

Heres my effort. Did the others who tried this simply extrude the main shape then produce the internal holes? Are the top and bottom surfaces flat?

I didn't download the file so assumed the middle ellipse was larger in the y-axis meaning the top and bottom surfaces would be curved.

This feature can be done with 3 Swept blends or 3 Variable section sweeps 1 fill surface and a mirror.

Or instead of the Fill surface you can use an extruded rectangle to merge in and do the Model without any surface commands.

I assume you are using the hole ellipse sections as the internal portion for the side swept blends and the external ellipse for the outer swept blend.
A Few Questions.
Is the Y radius of the center ellipse equal to the side Radii?
Could you do the model with your method if it is?
Are your Swept blends using only 2 sections or 3?
Could you send me a .neu export of the curves file.

RETURN CHALLENGE
I'll post pics soon but I challenge you to do the model so that it's not symmetric about the minor axis of the middle ellipse but still continuous curvature with different Maj& Min Radii of the 3 ellipses. So that the three sided flat top is not linear.
