Surfacing and Assembly

Hi all,

I have twomodels that were created in ProE. These are the models of a frame and leaflet. I have to wrap the leaflet around the frame. I drew theleaflet using some measured points. Then when I created the entire surface, there appeared two holes at the sides. I tried putting additional patches (surfaces) to cover them up, but couldn't do so. I get an error saying " FAILED TO BUILD THE SURFACE". Can anyone tell me if there is a way I can get around this? I also have to give a thickness of 0.1mm to the entire surface. For some reason, this also couldn't be done.

I have attached a picture of the final model for reference. The frame file is (model.prt) and the leaflet file is (leaflet.prt). The ultimate goal is to wrap (or fix) the leaflet around (on the outside) of the frame. I tried to create an assembly, but due to lack of proper understanding of how exactly to go about it, I'm facing problems.

I hope someone can help me with these innumerable problems. Also, please give me an explanation of how the problems were fixed. I'm still in the process of learning ProE and am a total novice.

Thanks a lot,

I have placed it an assembly for you but the surfacing needs work and Ill have to save that for another day.

see attached file. drop it into your working directory with your part files (I didnt change them, I only added a coord system to the assy).

If you start over create an an assembly> add the part you want to build over or reference>create a blank part> add the empty part to your assy by mating the coord systems of each

That should get you started.

Hi Mike,

Thanks a lot for the help. It looks like the way I wanted it. However,I'm still unable to get the assembly the way you did it. Can you give me a more detailed explanation of how you went about it? I mean, how to create the coordinate systems, etc? Did you create separate coordinate systems for the 2 models?

I was thinking of closing the void spaces at the sides by drawing arcs joining the outer (bigger bevel) on one side with that of the corresponding edge on the same side. However, the arcs seem to be offset. Is it possible to join the two curves on each side?

Thanks, once again.

I made an assembly and added the inner part
then created a new coordinate system in assembly that was different from the orientation of the default

assemble the part that has the surface in it using the new coordinate system from the assembly and the default coor sys from the part.

I dont have pro on this machine so i cant look at the part to comment on the surfaces.
