sweep fails with merge attribute

I have modeled a vss and am using a curve projecting out of the face of the vss to make a swept section.
The section that forms with the trajectory would not regenerate if i use merge ends attribute.In case of free ends, the vss and sweep do not merge.
Can someone tell me what mistake i am committing.
