Take mold of model?

I have a model I am working on. For this model I need to take a mold of the current model I am working on. Basically we are going to be using the mold to stamp out the model I have created.

I cannot find a way to actually take a "mold" of the model I have created. I have tried various options such as the "Mold Tools" but I have been unable to achieve any results at all from it. I also searched on Google for an answer but I was unable to find any.

The design is not extremly complex, It is basically a 2x2x1 square with an imprint in the center (The square and imprint has fillets and chamfers.)

I am using Solidworks 2006.

Thanks for the help!

You could create another part as a block, assemble you master part with the block and then cut the part out of the new block. You will then have the negative of the part in the block.

I'm sure there is a way to do it using the mold features but I haven't used it so cutting the shape from a block is the way I would do it.

ive made mold assemblies out of finished sw models and basically you have to do all the legwork for building them. as far as i know, there isnt a simple one-shot way of doing this... good luck.

mayi ask what material the part will be made out of and what kind of machine process are you using for manufacturing the part.

It sounds to me like you need to use the cavity feature to make a mould of you model. To do this, make a block that is bigger than your model and save it. This will be your mould. Use this block and open an assebly with it. Bring your model into the assemply and place it completely inside the block. Save the assembly. In the assembly, edit the block. Go to insert, features, cavity. Select your model as the design component.
