Teleporting from one assembly to another

New member
All,

I have previously used a bespoke bit of PTCsoftware that was developed with CATERPILLAR to do hydraulic hose routings. The package (Fluid Lines) is based loosely on Pro/Pipe. One very nice bit of the package was a command called 'Teleport' which allowed me to move components from one assembly to another (all constraints in the new assembly were translated to 'Fix' regardless of the their pre-teleport condition.

All I am wondering, quite simply, is there a command in the standard ProE that is equivalent to this?

I am familiar with this also and to my knowledge there is no equivalent command. When I needed to do this without using Fluid Lines I had to manually create the coordinate system in the targetassembly and then assemble the part into the target assembly using the new cos.

Got an answer from another forum. Turns out that

EDIT >- RESTRUCTURE

will do the same as 'TELEPORT'

PS You still with CAT?

Thanks for the tip, hopefully I'll remember it the next time I need it.

I work for a contract company that does work for CAT and yes I am still working on their product. Right now I am working on motor grader front axles and am going to start on a front axle for the small wheel loader in a couple of weeks. The group I am in works primarily on the lower powertrain.

From the Help files:

About Restructuring Assembly Components

Use the Edit > Restructure command to modify assembly groupings and add flexibility to the assembly design process. Restructure an assembly to reorganize components from one subassembly to another or to create a new assembly entity. You can move components from one subassembly to another, or from the top-level assembly to a subassembly, or vice versa. However, the top-level assembly must be in session to properly regenerate a restructured subassembly, otherwise components may have to be frozen. After you restructure a subassembly, you can add to it and modify it.
A new, empty subassembly can be created and components restructured to this subassembly. You can then create a drawing of the subassembly and list the components in a table for a BOM. However, the first time you retrieve the subassembly without the top-level assembly, you must freeze all the components.
The following restrictions apply to restructuring assembly components:

<LI =kadov-p-CTopic-Text-Bulleted>
You cannot select the first component of a subassembly or an assembly to restructure.
<LI =kadov-p-CTopic-Text-Bulleted>
When restructuring, if both the original component and the target assembly are members of the same level assembly, you must move the children of the original component as well.
<LI =kadov-p-CTopic-Text-Bulleted>
You cannot restructure components that are part of a pattern.
<LI =kadov-p-CTopic-Text-Bulleted>
If an assembly contains multiple copies of the same subassembly, you cannot restructure the components of that subassembly.
<LI =kadov-p-CTopic-Text-Bulleted>
You cannot restructure an assembly if multiple occurrences of the original assembly exist.
[/list]
----
Note that when you restructure a component,the target assembly has a reference to the source.

Cheers PRStockhausen....

ljcorbin...Small wheel loader (UK) was the product I worked on when I was with CAT

Funny that.....

Living in UK (near CAT Desford plant, a place called Overseal, google it and find it), but am actually Irish, living in UK for my sins....

What part of Ireland you going to?

I need to restructure an assembly to reflect the way our units are being built. I've used the restructure command to move single components many times. However, I now have a bunch of fasteners that need to move along with the components. It's going to be very tedious moving them one at a time. Is there a way to move many components simultaniously? I tried grouping them, but that diddn't work.

David,

I have only ever been able move individual compoenents using this method.....

Anthing that is either grouped or patterened cannot be restructured

Sorry

Kev

David,

I've actually had a thought (and this late in the day as well).

Maybe what you could do is make a pattern (in your part geometry)that the fasteners are ref patterned to and then all you have to do is recreate this ref patterning in your new assy once you have restructured.

Kev

I think I get you... I'll give that a try.

I've entered an enhancement request to PTC on this, however pointless it may be.

David,

When it comes to enhancement requests, I have one from 1987 that I am still waiting for a reply to....I wouldn't start holding your breath if I were you

.

Yea... There was some sarcasm in that comment...

I've got a long list of requests, and haven't seen any responses to any of them.
