Text on revolved surface

Hi,

How do I place text(from sketch mode) on a revolved surface (cylinder)?

I am guessing that I have to make an offset datum plane from a datum plane within the cylinder andprojectthis plane onto the surface in some way. Right?

I have beenusing Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire earlier during my studies but now I am using Pro/ENGINEER 2001 since the company I am working for only has this version.

When using Wildfire I had no problem doing this. However, when trying to do the same thing in 2001 I am not able to make it work.

How do I solve this? Is there any easy way of doing this?

Thanks in advance!

You can "project" a sketch onto any surface, or combination of surfaces. To do this, on the top tool bar, select "Edit", then "Project".

When the dashboard opens, select the "reference" tab. You can either place a previously created curve, or you can create the sketch by selecting the down arrow and picking it. Once the sketch is completed, select the reference surfaces that you it projected to. Then select a directional datum or surface. This should complete this type of feature.

You can also create a "cosmetic groove" that will do the same thing.

Hi,

I want to put text onto a curved surface of a cylindrical part,to replicate electro-etching,that will be displayed on thepart in the final assembly. I've done extruded text on flat surfaces before but haven't been able to a curved surfaces.

Appinmi's idea worked to put text onto the model but I can't get it to show up on the no hidden line model.

Thanks
