"They" use Catia, "We" use Pro/E...

When I get IGES files from "them", they need a lot of fixing to get them to solidify. Sometimes they are so bad that it is easier to just re-do them from scratch. Question:

1. Are there other formats that are better? I have the Pro/intf-for-CAT module. Does that mean I can open native Catia files?

2. Are there any settings/config options that I can set to improve the quality of the IGES import?

3. Is there any settings in CatiaI can suggest to"them" to improve the quality?

FYI, "we" are using WF 2.0 m110

Hi
generally iges files from other cad systems especially (surface modelling) doesnt come as good as proe, u can ask them to provide step files, u can open catia native parts if u have that option , u have to check up upto which version of catia u can open,
before importing iges use this config option,
"fix boundaries on import" yes,

Hi,

You don't specify whether "they" are using CATIA v4 (which is Bezier based) or CATIA v5 (which is NURBS based) nor whether the models are supposed to be solid models or surface models. If they are surface models asking for STEP files won't change a thing.

If they are using CATIA v4 you probably see a lot of very small curves in the model. There is much you can do about this. It is related to the conversion of high order Bezier curves to B-splines in IGES.

What you can try is to add the following option to the config.pro

intf_in_keep_high_deg_bspl_srfs yes

You can also try to perform export to IGES and import these IGES files to filter unwanted entities out.Best regards,

John

We used to have the same problem. We get translated models from all different CAD systems.

Try going to 'Elysium.com'. You upload your model to them they will provide you with a quote and thendo the translation for you and send it back. We have been extremely happy with their results and the time that you save will more than justify the expense, which is very fair. We have been using them for over 2 years and never been dissatisfied. Most of the time they can turn it around in 24 hours or less depending on the model size and the amount of healing involved.

Good Luck!!
