To kill a Mapkey

Sometime....when mapkeys die......they don't stay dead!!!

So how do I completely and totaly kill a mapkey??
I mean gone forever & ever amen.

Mine are stored in my config.pro file (to the best of my understanding). I know that if I delete one from the mapkey dialog box, or even from the config.pro options list, then it will just clear them from the session. However, I went into my config.pro in Notepad and cleared the mapkey definition that I didn't want, deleted it out. Guess what, the mapkey is still there in ProE! Not just showing up in the list, it's still fully functional. And if I go back and check config.pro, the line that I deleted are still deleted!!!

So either there is info in the config.pro file that cannot be accessed with notepad, or the info on the mapkeys has been backed up to another file (which is auto loading when I startup) andI am not aware of it.

Plaze halp. thanks.

are you sure, that the config.pro file you edited (from where you removed mapkeys) is used by the pro/e.

i mean may be there are more then one config file in your system.

you are working on one and editing the other.

Nope, I removed the config file from the working dir to make sure it was the one that ProE was using. Sure enough, all of the settings reset to defaults, buttons were reset, mapkeys were all absent, etc.

Ironicly enough, the act of moving the config file out and then moving it back in seem to clear out the mapkeys I deleted. One of my co-workers had the mapkey in question in his toolbar. After I moved the config file in and out, his button would not work anymore.

This leads me to believe that there is a temp file that hangs onto these settings from the config file. I have no idea what it would be tho. Anyway, problem solved for the time being, but if anyone has any theories I would't mind hearing them in case this presents itself again.

Mapkey stake through the heart by:
Exit your Pro/E session.
Edit the config.pro.
Restart the session.

Otherwise: if, after editing your config.pro file at the system level, you then go back to the session and choose tools/options followed by saving the config.pro, all the mapkeys in the session will restored to the config.pro.

Hey a few things you might look into. Do you have a config.sup file. This would be another file that could hold info on map keys. You have a config.pro in the working directory. Make sure that this is the file that proe is using. There may also be a file in the startup directory. Also check the load point directory that there is not a file there. And lastly, I had an instance where I had a config.pro in my windows\documents&settings\(your username) folder. THink it was where browser favourites were stored, anyway I managed, whilst saving a mapkey to put it into this file.

A few little things to look into. Hope it helps.
