Using Edge from existing Geometry

Morning all,

Still getting the hang of this WF thing. Long time user of every other version though. In the past if I needed to for example create a sweep in a new part while in assembly mode I would offset edge of another part in the assembly. But to not be tied to the other part in the assembly I would then redimension the trajectory to the new parts datum planes and delete the offset dims breaking the parent relationship. I am having a real hard time with the nomenclature of locked or ref or whatever the other options are in WF. It seems once I redim to my new planes something always moves. Is there a more desireable way to get done what I want? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also the tweak, replace command was a favorite of mine. I cannot seem to remember the pick order. Do i pick the surf i want replaced and then the quilt I want to replace it with? Thanks again all and have a good weekend.

Hi Sid,

Instead of dimensioning off the new references off the bat, go into sketch>references, and delete all your references. Then put in your desired refences. Dimension to your desired scheme. If something moves, go undo, and try to lock down some dimensionswith RMB>lock. This will give you what you needto prevent moving entities.

as far as tweak replace, it is under the offset command now.

You need to pick the surface you want to replace first then pick the offset command, toggle the offset type to replace, pick the quilt, done.

I just discovered this 'dimension lock' thing myself: this is new to Wildfire, as I am. It acts like the old 'yellow' dims worked: the value will not change unless the user alters it. This is solving some of my headaches. I find it curious that itI never caught itin any of the dozen or so PTCU tutorials I have taken in the last six months.
