using jpeg to make a model & measure area

Is there a way to import a jpeg and then use it to model from?

I can importthe jpegand sketch along thelines of the image but I'd like to do this a little more accurately.I can't see the sketch lines because they are behind the jpeg, even when I send thejpeg to the back. If I could put the sketch on top of the jpeg, that would work. The end result I'm looking for is a way to measure the area of a part of the jpeg.I have scales on myjpeg I can use. FYI, I'm on SW08, SP3.1. TIA!

Hi Paul,

Sounds likee a bug. I have done this a number of times and always been able to have the sketch on top of the jpeg. Did you try looking from the other side of the sketch? Just an idea.

Michael is right.

Other idea: play with the jpeg'stransparency and with the lines thickness and colour.

Yes, I usually increase the transparency as well cause even if the sketch is on the correct side, it can be difficult to see.

Thanks for the help guys. My thought as well was to try and make the jpeg transparent...Ifound a better solution with the help of a colleague here at my office (he lookd at the SW Help!). The problem was that I was pastingthe jpeg direclty into the modeling window. The solution is to use a sketch tool as follows...

Starta new sketch on the desired plane. Select Tools->Sketch Tools->Sketch Picture and select the picture you want to sketch from. The picture is then placed on your sketch plane and you can skectch over it. Works very well.
