Welded Overlay Drawing

I need to be able to draw and show the location and geometry of a welded overlay (tungsten carbide). This is not the same as a seam weld to connect two parts, but a coating/layering of metal on metal.

The only way I can think of is to have an assembly with two parts, the base material and the overlay, then mate them to show a drawing with two sets of hatches. Although this works for one or two parts, this is very time consuming.

Does anyone know of a way to show a welded overlay on a drawing with separate cross hatching and dimensions, asides from creating a separate part?

Thanks,

Brendan

I think you can start a new part in topdown design and copy all solid surface of all parts to one part file

thicken all the surface in that part

and call it coating part

hopping this may work

Why do u wanna create a geometry of welded overlay?

To show a particular welding on such locations, you can use weld symbols to show all kind of welding including length, width, pitch, weld strength and end notes like all aroundor half around andone side or both sidesin the drawing. Dont you have a weld symbols?
