Hi,

I am going to be sharing files with my parent company in Europe & they are upgrading to Windchill PDM Link 8.0 in a few weeks. I know nothing about this link. I found on PTC's website that for $1000you can get this self paced material to learnit. I waswondering if anyone has used this or has any recommendations?

Thanks

Anything with the words "Windchill" in it sucks! I had to setup Windchill project link and with the combination of how bad windchill is and how bad PTC's service is, It wasn't easy. It's still does'nt do everything that is needed and to customize it takes a act of god. Any written or learning material from PTC will be limited at best. There documentation blows.

Goodluck.

Thanks for the information.

Basically I just need to learn the system. How to use it. Do you know where I can find any documentation onWindchill PDM Link 8.0?

PDMLink 'Help' comes with some tutorials to introduce you to the system. Also, you will find that there is a ton of documentation on the PTC web site under Technical Support > Download Reference Documents. There is a particular document for using PDMLink with Wildfire that gets the basics covered. The on-line training you mentioned must be PTC University; there is a lot of material available for the money, broken up so that you can take the classes that apply to you. Of course it is all oriented to default type PDMLink setup and your PDMLink will probably have been configured somewhat differently but it will certainly get you up and running. Personally, I prefer to first read the docs and do the on-line and then take an instructor led class.

Hi Mike,

Please let me know with your email id and I will email some documents documents if I come across.

Thanks,

Deepak

A lot depends on how you will be sharing files.

If you are just sending them by e-mail and they are putting them into PDMLink, then that is easy.

If you are going to be using PDMLink and managing your files in it, then you have some things to consider. Managing CAD data over a WAN with much distance you will run into latency issues. We set up our PDMLink system so each location doing CAd work had their own CAd file server and they were setup on a replication schedule with the master PDMLink vaults.

Thanks for all your help.

We are currently testing the PDM Link for speed. I am runnning off a server that is 5000 miles away. So far ithas not been bad. I can download & upload while workingin PROE. I also searched aroundthe PTC website & found some helpful documentation on PDM Link8.0. So I am learning more aboutit now.
