Has anyone ever used wizard appretice before? If so, could you give me some tips? I know it has a help file, but I can't find out how it communicated with pro engineer. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks,

Omar

Ron,

Thanks for responding. I already knew about this site, but I was trying to get more information from a user that has used this program.

All I have used it for is to prompt the userto selectmaterial and finish from a list generated by a batch file. This information is saved to a file and then a mapkey is called to set the material and finish parameters.

Another use is variable notes.

Ron,

How did the script in wizard's apprentice communicate with pro engineer? When the user selected the material, how did you incorporate that into proe? Any help or suggestion would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Omar

The script in wizards apprentice does not communicate directly with pro engineer.

You need to create a mapkey for various materials.
We also created an icon for each material on the toolbar, so all the user does is pick the icon for the material.
A batch file is then started and prompts the user to select material, size and finish.
(The batch file uses the wizards apprentice functions to present the information.)
This information is saved as parameter details in a file (myparams.txt).
The mapkey then assigns the chosen material to the part.(From previously created .mat files)
Another mapkey is then started which saves the current relations to a file (existparams.txt),
Opens file (myparams.txt) and regenerate the part. This sets parameters for material, size and finish.
Then file (eixstparams.txt) is opened to restore the original relations.

Hope this helps.

Ron,

Thank you very much for responding.

So your basically saying that pro e is just reading the text file that parameter details in it, which are triggered by running a macro. Did I understand you correctly?
