Won’t define constraints

Hi

Not sure if anyone will know but iv modelled a spur gear in 3d studio max, saved it as a .dxf file to load into pro. e. When i load up the file into pro. e it gives me options for drawing, assembly, part, etc. i choose part as i want to run an analysis (thats right isnt it?).

When i try to define the constraints it doesnt let me, no part of the model highlights when i run the mouse over it?

Does it have something to do with the way the file from 3d studio max is defined and wont allow me to select individual surfaces?

Iv tried resaving the file as a prt file but to no avail

Thankyou for your time and help

zstatus,

First save the orig file as a dwg

Then start a new part in proe

Start a new protrusion

In sketcher mode (will probably help to turn off intent manager first if there are lot of lines), import the data from the dwg file (Sketch>- Data From File) and then make all the required dimensions for proe in sketcher mode

Finish sketch and give the gear a thickness

Kev

Cheers

Do you mean save the file from 3d max as a .dwg or open the .dxf in pro.e then save as a .dwg

When i try to open files in pro.e it doesnt recognise any dwg files in the directory only dxf files

prohammy,

i havent got it on the machine im currently working on, iv managed to open the dwg file but as you said i need to turn off intent manager, but once i turn off intent manager i cant access data from file, am i missing something?

zstatus,

PS Something I forgot to mention. When you have successfully brought in the sketch, there will be a visual aid to help you place the data (This is a red block with white crosshairs in the middle in WF), drag and drop the white crosshairs onto the reference lines). Once this is done you should able to attach dims to the sketch.

Zstatus,

Not too sure what will happen in WF3 here, but the following might help (this where you will have to do some looking around in the Dashboard)

What you need to do now is (look at the pic below) Sec Tools>- Copy Draw and then you will be able to place the dwg file
