Working with .STL files.

Hey Guys,

I'm a student at the University of Kentucky and right now I'm in London
working on a project that involves my college as well as King's
College.

The goal of the project is to take a stake of DICOM images from MRI
Scans and then getting an area of interest out and forming that on a
metal press. They have a program which gives me the area of
interest in STL format only. So I'm having to work with that in
ProE and merge that with a outer shell which is the shape needed for
the mold. Once merged this entire thing will be rapid
prototyped.

I've attached an image that shows the area of interest set in the
middle of the red mold shape. I need to make a smooth transition
between the grey stl area of interest and the top of the red
mold. I've tried lots of different things to varying degrees of
success. But, the main problem is the fact that I can't really
work with the STL facets.

Is there any way to cover it in a surface, or a good way to attach a
surface to the edges and make a smooth transition to the red solid I've
created in ProE?

I've attached an image to show what I'm talking about.

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

I'm using ProE Wildfire 2.0

Hi,

You can use REX to work on the stl model and create a smooth surface to on the stl model. I am not sure if you are having Reverse Engineering Extension. let us know if you are having the same so that we can teke it from there.
