There is no limitation of the wrap curve as long as the model remains straight. You only need to know the exact length of the line that will be wrapped around a body. For example the exact length of the curve around a cylinder is :
(total height of cylinder)/sin(angle to the base of the curve)
Example file is attached. Curve length fully wraps around cylinder and is independent of diameter of cylinder.
