2D drawing conversion

Hello friends,

i need one urgent help from you..
I want to know whether it is possible to draw 2D drawing
directly in Pro-E exactly to the given dimension.
i have a PDF file of a drawing, and my customer wants me
to convert that drawing in to Pro-E format without
creating 3D of it..

please help me out in this as early as possible...

pro is for 3D only, you can use Autocad or briscad to genrate direct 2D

Use the utility pdf2dwg.


Import the dwg file directly into drawing of proe. This scenario assumes that the drawing in the original file is drawn to scale.

But, it will not allow you to edit any thing right ?
where is this PDF to DWG utility situated in Pro-E ??
there are some updates to be done on the drawing, so asking
like this..

PDF2DWG is not a proe tool but an external tool to convert PDF drawing files to DWG or DXF. Google for "pdf2dwg".


Once the dwg file is imported into proe, it is like any other proe entitiy. If the pdf file is a SCANNED PDF, it may not convert since it would understand it as a picture and not a Vector.


Try it out.

Open the
PDF file in illustrator (or another vector based software package) and save it
as a DXF or DWG. PRO-E will be able to directly open this file. You will have
the ability to edit.

i tried to import a DWG file, which i created in autoCAD,
in pro-e. It opened, but i was not able to edit it.
whenever i place my cursor over it, it will disappear.
Anything i am missing while importing or anything to be
done before editing it??

I need one more clarification from you guys..

Is it possible to draw 2D drawing (like in AutoCAD)in Pro-E
I have hardcopy of some drawings, which are scanned copies
of some old 80's drawings. I need to convert or draw those
drawings in Pro-E. Is it possible..???
Is it possible in any of the versions of Pro-E (I am using
Wildfire 3)like in new versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.2 etc..
please help..

It is possible to use any version of Pro/E as a strictly 2D drawing package but it has very poor tools. It is a poor use of it's capabilities and your time. If I have an old 2D drawing to recreate, I model everything in 3D and & create drawing of the model. For me, it takes less time, and you then have all the parametric editing capabilities that are the reason you bought Pro/E. If you just want to play in the shallow end of CAD, there are lots of low cost or free tools that do a better job of 2D drawings.

This phenomenon could be due to Graphics card or colour settings in AutoCAD. Change your system screen settings to Black on White or Prewildfire.
View --> Display --> System colors...
Alternatively, you may window select the drawing sketch entities and change their colour. NOTE: To select sketch entities, you should be on Sketch TAB and to select the Textual notes, you should be on Annotation Tab. This is one of the many irritants on WF5.

You can do it. Follow the method as described below.
Open a new PART file.
Choose a Datum say TOP.
Use the sketch tool to begin sketching on it. The sketch can then be both dimensionally and geometrically constrained. CAUTION!!! Do not try to make all of the drawing in one go. Use the sketch command multiple times. This gives better control.
Having done this, you can then get a drawing of the part thus made into a drawing.
Again, Proe is meant for 3D. It would be a waste of resource and time to do it the other way.
