Hello all.... I am an international student and amin the process of applying to ProE jobs, some of which require experience in ANSI 14.5 M Design Standards. Does this mean proficiency in GD&T? If otherwise, could anyone please suggest any books or sitelinks where i could get familiar with this Standard. Thanks in advance.....

sudhirs,

ForGD&T,My two favorites are:

- Geometrics IIIby Lowell W. Foster

and

- Interpretation of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing by Daninel E. Puncochar

The above, as well as ANSI Y14.5M-1994, publishedbyASME, are available at Amazon.com or a number of other sources.

The ANSI is a rather dry read. I'd recommend checking with a local library to see if you can borrow one. The others I'd recommend purchasing for you professional library for use in the future. If GD&T is not part of your daily routine, chances are you'll need a reference later on.

Keep in mind that the first 39 pages ofANSI Y14.5M-1994 deal
with traditional x-y coordinate dimensioning - the entire standard
is not just GD&T.

Those are two very good books on the subject of GD&T. The best way to learn GD&T is to read those books and then take a class in the subject. The classes really dig deeper into the why and where's of GD&T as far as why is it used and where do you apply it.
