BOM TABLE automate to suit ASSY/PART draw

Hi Experts,

Most of the time I use A3 formats, apart from that A1, A0 & A2 when required. In all the formats, BOM TABLE is customized such that whenever the drawing is started, the BOM TABLEautomatically appears in screen.(

Is there any way to control the BOM tableappearance based on its type say part or assy. Ie. When using A3 format, I'm creating drawing for a single part, so in that case, BOM table should not appear. But using same A3 format, if I'm creating assy, then BOM TABLE should appear in the sheet.

Any codes to write to achieve this? The drawing should automatically read whether it is a part or assy and should fetch the BOM TABLE.

I want to avoid manual fetching of BOM TABLE from insert menu

Any help friends!!!!

Thanks for the suggestion,

But all I need is Is there any method the while starting a drawing it has to read whether it is a part/assy and display/no-display accordingly.

I.e: for single parts,BOM should not be displayed, and for ASSY bom should display.

I beleive there could be a solution for this.

Thanks in advance.

Really, he's correct, a mapkey to bring in the bom is the very best way to go. I don't know if it's a mindset left over from people working in AutoCAD, but a bom simply doesn't belong on a Pro-E format. There's some other reasons and benefits for not having the bom on the format.

Can't you just delete the repeat region if not needed?

(this is what we do, using the same format for both parts and assy's)

Why not just have two formats, one with and one without a BOM? You already have to choose which size so it would not add even a single click.

I agree with Dr Gallup. I have several drawing formats, ANSI A, B, C, and D for both assembly and part files. When the time comesto make a drawing, I simply"browse" for the drawing format (which includes paper size, tables, and title block formatting) that best applies to my part/assembly. The format canbe easily changed or updated laterusing the "page setup" option in the File menu.

The key is tocreate several formatsand to name them so that you know exactly what is includedin eachformat. For example, D_BOM_assy.frm. Putthem in the"formats" folder within the Pro-E directory or copythem to your working folder(s), then you shouldn't have a problem accessing it. The only problem I have found is that it can be time consuming creating a company-specific title block format, not hard, just tedious. A good project for an intern perhaps.

Also, I have changed the default part and assembly files to include the same parameters that are called for in the parts list table in the drawing. I am referring to parameters that are not included with any part/assembly by default such as drawing number, vendor, and part number

I also have a couple saved table formats that I can insert without having to format the table. You can save an existingtable with a repeat region, I think it saves as a *.tbl file. When you go to Table >> Insert >> Insert from File, it inserts the table with the same report parameters as the original table, but updates the table with the parameters from the current part or assembly.
