copying notes from MS Word

Some characters get messed up when copied into a note in a proe drawing. For instance, the dash (-) and the apostrophe (') come out as question marks. The same text copied from a plain old text file comes out fine. Copying from the Word doc to a text file to proe didn't fix this. Unfortunately, we have lots of standard notes stored in a Word file. Any advice?

Do a save as in Word to convert them to text files. This is a common issue with Word. I do some amateur web development and anything copied from Word into a web dialog ends up a jumbled mess too.

Doug, Thanks but that didn't work - at least not with the default options. Also it didn't work using ms dos encoding. Saving it as an .rtf file didn't work either. I know what you mean about Word to Web - I did that a bit a few years ago and finally just switched to using Notepad for editing. Not very sophisticated, but less surprises.

I don't know what to tell you then.

Drifting a bit off topic, I've switched to EditPad for text editing. They have a free Lite version, but I ponied up for the Pro so I can get syntax highlighting for a bunch of formats like *.bat files and *.html. I've even started to develop a syntax highlighter for *.pro files, which is handy. Doesn't quite work right yet, but it's close enough for now.

No worries - there's gotta be some CAD guru out there with the answer. I'll try EditPad in mind if I ever get back into web design. I tried a few of the editors available back then but just kept going back to Notepad.
