Cosmetic Thread Representation in Drawing

I have a drilled and tapped hole in a model, and now I am trying to create a drawing. The minor diameter of my hole is about 1.0 in. deep, and the threads go to a depth of about .50 in. When I create a section view (local section) in my drawing, the threads are being shown as follows:

As you can see, the lines representing the thread major diameter (parallel to the hole axis), are shown (and plot) as dimmed/hidden lines. However, the line representing the end/depth of the threads is shown (and plots) as a heavy/solid line. For reference, I have tried:

  1. Creating the hole using the hole feature, and selecting the box/option to "included thread surface."
  2. Creating the hole minor diameter using the hole feature, and creating the thread envelope/surface using a cosmetic thread feature
  3. In the drawing, change the drawing option "hlr_for_threads" to both yes and no.
  4. In the drawing, change the drawing option "thread_standard." I tried every thread standard listed, from std_ansi, to std_iso_imp_assy.
  5. In the drawing view properties, under "View Display," the option "Hidden line removal for quilts" is checked "no," and that option is grayed-out, so I can not change it.
I have tried every combination of the above options/variations, and the result is unchanged. This drawing view is a general view with a local 2D section. The View Display style is set to "No Hidden," with Tangent edges display style set to "Dimmed." Hopefully that thoroughly explains my situation. Does anybody have any ideas? I'd really appreciate the help! Thanks,
Scott

I never thought to this before butfrom what I remember from school about the threads, in asection the hole is represented with a thicker line and the thread with a thinner line (not dotted line or hidden line)something like below:

I looked thru ASME Y14.5M-1994 and see that they represent the thread like your picture the major diameter with dotted line and the thread bottom with a solid line.

So I don't think you should worry about the thread like youyou have it it's OK.

I too have my threads represented like your picture and never got any complains about. I think you should leave them as is. Besides I never saw the bottom line of a thread represented as a dotted line.

Maybe someone else has a different opinion on this.

Vlad,

Thanks for the help. I think you're right. After looking at the figures in ASME Y14.6-2001, the thread end/depth line is shown as a solid line. I think I was mislead by my company's design practices and past drawings.
