Crashes in drawing mode

I've noticed that I seem to be crashing quite a bit recently while I am in the drawing mode.

We moved up to WF3 a few months ago, and it seems to have reduced the overall crashing and locking that we've had. However, I've lost count of the number of times in the last week that I've crashed while in draiwng mode.

Now, i've been primarily working on the drawing for one decent sized overall assembly model. The crashes occur almost exclusively when I zoom in and out on something (with the mouse wheel). I'm not even coming close to my memory ceiling (usualy crashes around 1.0 to 1.3 GB, and I have 3GB available).I am using layers quite a bit (hiding datums & tols, hiding pipe centerlines).

Another X factor may be the fact that I recently installed DDM on my machine. I have not been using it, only installed it. I am still using standalone ProE WF3 (M100) and making no reference to the DDM setting files or directories.

Any suggestions for my extreemly broad and non-specific dilema??

This is exactly what has been happening to me. We also just upgraded to 3.0 recently - our dealer said it would crash less, and itdoes but not by much. I started talking to our dealer to verify that our graphics card and driver were correct, which they were. They then sent me a link, and told me to have my IT person install it (actually they said to do a switch, so I assume it's replacing something else). The link was http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAE mem.mspx. This supposedly allows Wildfire to use more RAM or something like that. (I know less aboutcomputers every day, so can't explain it better than that.) The difference is noticeable, but not a cure - I can still crash by zooming in too close in a drawing that uses my larger assemblies.

You appear to be experiencing the same problem as me. Unfornuately, this fix was something we implimented not long after installing WF3. It deals with that memory ceiling i was refering to.

Thanks though. It's nice to know I'm not alone in my frustrated crashing.

Anyone happen to find anything new about this one?

I never really did come to a solution for this problem.
In fact, it seems to have gotten worse now.
Its even crashing on small assemblies.

Anything helpfull would be much appreciated!

Thx!

I know this happens on a co-workers machine with an ATI graphics card while my nVidia Quadro FX 4000 never does it. I can zoom all the way in with the mouse wheel until Pro/E quits zooming and back out dozens of times. I was trying to show how I do something on the other machine, zoom in too far and BOOM, no more Pro/E.
