Creo parametric app demo

Interesting. My take on the philosophy behind the apps was that each user would only have the tools that they need presented to them, based on the app they have or chose to run. Based on that idea, it wouldn't make sense for the pro app to have the direct features available.

Yes and no. The philosophy is to give each user the minimum tools he needs, so it makes sense to have a rendering app, a direct modeling app and so on. But a power user, like an engineer/designer, may take advantage of _all_ the tools he can have, so at least the "option" to have a full package is good in my opinion. I remember during the presentation the speaker saying that "if you are in the Pro app and you want to tweak the direct edits, you don't need to fire up Direct and work there, you simply use the direct tools inside Pro". That makes sense to me. But of course the direct tools will be an optional package for Pro, if you think you don't need it you won't buy it.

This seems like a nice way to save time. But is this what the revolution they kept talking about looks like -amove feature in the model tree? Surely there must be more. This is supposed to be the new paradigm for the next 20 years.

Although they didn't start out with a direct model they did show what happens with a feature that didn't exist in the parametric environment but was created in the direct environment and brought back into the parametric environment. Looking at the video segments on the creo site (whichappear to bethe same as what was shown from the event but a little clearer) it sounds as if it shouldn't matter which environment the model is created in as long as the work is saved in the common data format which is what allows for data to be used accross the different modes.

Just saw this video again, you can see it on YouTube here. Look at the 3 min mark, the edits added in the direct app are edited again in the parametric app. He changes teh sketch of the extrude and the number of instances and spacing of the pattern. The 'features' show up as 'flexmove' features or something like that, but there does seem to be ways of parametrically editing them.

So, it seems that when editing in the direct app, Creo is actually creating a parametric feature in the background. Kudos to PTC if they can pull this off in a useful way.

Frankly speaking, the videos were impressive. If everything works as advertised it will be really great. But PTC must not do mistakes this time, the audience is hypercritical and competition is strong. They waited and waited while others implemented direct editing in various flavors, we waited too, patiently, chewing menu managers and half baked ribbon interfaces. Now I see the possibility of having a well integrated parametric/direct modeler, with subdivision surfaces thrown in as a bonus... I can't wait this summer, we want to test it nooooow :D:D:D
